The award "Sweden's Most Modern Authority 2023" was won by the Swedish Maritime and Transport History Museums (SMTM).

The authority operates and develops the Maritime Museum, the Maritime Historical Museum, the Vasa Museum, the Wreck Museum, and the Railway Museum. About the positions

As a host at the Maritime Museum, you will work in one of three different areas. You can work in our entrance/shop, in our exhibitions, or in our family activities. In all areas, you will meet many different visitors, and we are looking for someone who understands the importance of making people feel welcome. You are the museum's face to the public, and your approach is crucial for our guests' experience.

Your skills and experience

We place great importance on personal suitability. To thrive in the role, you should have a positive attitude and a natural sense of service. You have experience in customer-facing roles within the tourism industry or similar fields, and you enjoy working in a busy environment with many people around you. You are a quick learner and self-sufficient, and you easily adapt to a varied work environment. You are used to communicating with people of different ages and from different countries. You speak very good Swedish and English, and it is an advantage if you also speak German or Polish. We also appreciate if you have knowledge of Karlskrona as a tourist and World Heritage destination. For all positions, you must be at least 18 years old by June 1, 2025.

In addition to the mentioned qualifications, it is desirable that you also meet the following merits for each position.

Family Activities

In our Sailor's Workshop and Knot Shop, you will guide children and adults in various maritime family activities. Cleaning, organizing, and replenishing materials are part of the daily work.

• You have experience leading activities for children.
• You have experience in knot tying.

Exhibitions

You ensure that there is good order and a welcoming environment in our exhibitions and on our ships. You continuously patrol our public areas and manage queues and entry to the submarine HMS Neptun. You work variably indoors and outdoors, and some physically demanding tasks are part of the job.

• You have knowledge of the history of the Swedish Navy.
• You have seafaring experience.

Entrance/Shop

You handle entrance tickets and inform visitors about the museum's offerings, as well as respond to visitor inquiries via incoming emails and phone calls. You also work with the sale of souvenirs, literature, and home decor with a maritime touch. Cleaning, organizing, and restocking items are part of the daily work.

• You have experience in retail and personal sales.
• You have good cash handling skills.

The Maritime Museum in Karlskrona is one of the largest tourist destinations in southeastern Sweden, with approximately 300,000 visitors each year. We are a meeting place for Sweden's maritime history and provide our visitors with knowledge, joy, and opportunities for reflection. The position is located in the Public and Education Unit, which is responsible for the museum's opening hours and offers educational activities in the form of lectures, family programs, and tours for both children and adults.

Employment

The position is a part-time employment during the summer period. The work is scheduled (rotating schedule) and the extent is about 25 hours/week, weekdays and weekends. We also welcome candidates who can work extra based on the needs of the operation. Mandatory training days will be conducted before the start of the work period.
